Chateau Tooting 2009 uncorked: London

Chateau Tooting 2009 uncorked.... London’s new urban wine.

You are invited to a tasting of ‘Chateau Tooting’. This remarkable new wine has been made from grapes harvested from hundreds of gardens and allotments across Greater London. The Urban Wine Company works as a collective to produce a wine which has its roots firmly embedded in the London 'Terroir'. The company’s grape-growing members have used the viticulture expertise of Bookers, an established West Sussex vineyard, to help them produce the first English wine made from Urban grapes.

The Urban Wine Company has no aspirations to make a Grand Cru but the question on everybody’s lips is “Is it any good?” One expert described it as “an elegant, dry blush with enticing strawberry and raspberry fruitiness”. Come and taste for yourself, meet the growers and hear from The Urban Wine Company’s founder Richard Sharp how this enthusiastic and expanding community has sparked a vine planting revival across the capital.
